Charitable Lead Trust
By creating a Charitable Lead Trust you build a charitable fund with us for a predetermined number of years or your lifetime. At the end of the trust's term, the principal and any capital growth reverts to you or your beneficiary, often with significant transfer-tax savings.
How it works
- You transfer cash, securities or other property to us.
- The income is distributed to a charitable purpose.
- The trust can be terminated upon your death or after a predetermined number of years.
- You determine the beneficiary of the trust.
- When the terms of the trust expire, the remaining principal goes to you or your beneficiary.
Benefits
- Gift can be in cash, securities, real estate or other property.
- You may qualify for a charitable tax deduction for the present value of the charitable distributions.
- You can select the term of the trust: a select number of years or your lifetime.
- You can determine whether the principal should revert to you or your beneficiary when the trust ends.
- A means by which you support a United Methodist ministry and provide an inheritance for your beneficiary with possible tax benefits.
