Creating a Legacy for the Future
Gary Bias grew up within the nurturing faith community of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Ona, West Virginia. As an adult, he moved to Columbus and started his own business. According to Gary’s brother, David Bias, “Gary was always very creative and artistic – and routinely ‘thought outside the box.’” When Gary’s life ended at age 50, the friends and family left behind wanted to memorialize his caring and creative spirit.
The Gary Shawn Bias and Family Endowment Fund was created through the generosity of one of Gary’s friends. It will serve as an everlasting financial resource for the children and youth ministries of the church, including financial aid for young people in pursuit of their educations, for youth assistance and for the youth programs of the church.
On December 18, 2011, Gary’s friends and family worshiped together with the congregation of Bethesda United Methodist Church. Jeff Taylor led the church in the consecration of the Endowment Fund for its use in the work of God’s kingdom. As the Church moves into the future, one of the ways Gary’s memory will be kept alive is through the creative, nurturing care received in his name by God’s children at Bethesda United Methodist Church.
