Charitable Gift Annuities
A charitable gift annuity is an increasingly popular
way to make a meaningful gift to benefit a United Methodist
Church
or institution
while you enjoy
income and tax benefits that can enhance your financial well-being.
Annuities
can be written
on one or two lives. A charitable gift annuity
can
also make it possible for you to make a charitable
gift while helping to meet
the long-term financial needs of a loved one.
How do gift annuities work?

Under the terms of a gift annuity, you make a charitable gift of cash,
stock
or
other appropriate property.
You
receive fixed payments
for
life. The frequency
and amount of payments are determined
at the
time
the gift annuity is funded. The amount is based on rates
established by
the American Council of Gift Annuities.
Upon
your
death, the charitable remainder is used for the charitable purpose
you have
chosen. The promise to
pay the annuity
is a general
obligation and, in this sense, is "backed" by all
the unencumbered
assets of the UM Foundation of West Virginia, Inc.
Potential tax benefits!
You may be entitled to an income tax deduction for the year of
your
gift. Part
of each payment is tax-free through life expectancy. You
can enjoy income and tax benefits today for a
gift that you
might
otherwise have planned to make in the future.
