Layman's Foundation

We are grateful to serve as the Trustee of the Laymen’s Foundation of the United Methodist Men of the West Virginia Annual Conference.  In addition to providing support for the Annual Circuit Rider scouting event at Jackson’s Mill, one of the significant ministries of the Laymen’s Foundation is in providing scholarship grants to seminary students who intend to become pastors in the West Virginia Annual Conference.  It is funded by generous United Methodist Men and church or district UMMen groups from around the Conference.

“There are so many ways we can support our seminarians who have stepped out in faith to answer God’s call to ministry.  The financial grants are only a tangible symbol of our general support.” said George Webb, President of the Laymen’s Foundation (and also a member of the Board of Trustees of The United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia).  “And, let’s face it—a seminary education is expensive.  They need our support.”

Nicole BiondiWe receive so many expressions of gratitude from the many recipients of these generous grants, which often “make the difference” that makes their graduate education possible.  Nicole Biondi, a United Methodist student from South Charleston, West Virginia, recently wrote:  “Because of the support of the Laymen's Foundation, I am able to attend one of the most wonderful United Methodist Seminaries imaginable. It is through their kind generosity that I might begin to pursue a life devoted to ministry at Drew Theological Seminary. I cannot express how grateful I am to have the support of my conference both emotionally as well as financially. It is a real blessing to be a part of something so wonderful!  It's been a wonderful journey thus far.”

Many United Methodist Men’s groups (local church groups and district groups) have made gifts to the Laymen’s Foundation.  Anyone can make a gift in any amount simply by forwarding your gift to the United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia marked “Laymen’s Foundation.”  You can mail your check to P. O. Box 3811, Charleston, WV 25338 or, as always, make your gift through our website at www.umfwv.org .
