Our Story

The UM Foundation of WV began its service in 1974 to the
members, congregations, agencies, institutions, mission projects, and special
ministries of the West Virginia Conference of the United
Methodist Church.
Since those early days, the UM Foundation has grown in its significance as a
financial resource for Christian ministry. In its brief thirty year
history it has helped countless
persons discover the joy of being generous Christian stewards of what they
earned and what they owned. UM Foundation has assisted individuals and families with
its expertise in planned giving stewardship. Local United Methodist
Churches have increased their congregational stewardship by using the investment
opportunities of the UM Foundation to enhance the financial resources that have
been placed into their care for Christian ministry. Nearly two thirds of
all the financial resources contributed to the UM Foundation are endowment
trusts which will perpetually benefit hundreds of local UM Churches, all the
Conference-related ministries, and United Methodist causes, even beyond the
bounds of the the West Virginia Conference.
Since 1974, a total of over 800 endowment trusts and custodial (investment)
accounts have been established --- all dedicated to Christian ministries.
The total assets under management exceed $45 million. All the investments
are managed according to the Social Principles of our United Methodist Church.
Over $5 million has been distributed back to the United Methodist beneficiaries
of our trusts and custodial accounts; churches of every size in every District
of the Conference, and to all the United Methodist-related ministries within the
Conference!
We are truly fulfilling our mission to raise, manage and distribute funds for
United Methodist causes.
