Clergy Finances

On September 29 at 7:00 p.m., The Foundation will host David Bell, President of the Michigan United Methodist Foundation and the National Association of United Methodist Foundations, to share information regarding clergy finances. David is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church. He received Post-Graduate Certificates in Executive Leadership and Executive Coaching from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Drew Theological School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies and Secondary Education from The College of Wooster.

As an insightful author and nationally recognized keynote speaker, David addresses the often-overlooked spiritual discipline of generosity. One of David’s recognized strengths is his personal understanding of complex organizations from a 360° perspective. David gained practical experience as a pastor, a development director, and regional and national church leader. His topics will include clergy taxes, clergy housing and the housing exclusion, investing, and financial management.

Funding Forward

On November 17, at 7:00 p.m., The Foundation will host Grace Duddy Pomroy. Grace is the Director of the Stewardship Leaders Program at Luther Seminary. She’s a lay, millennial stewardship leader, speaker, and financial educator. She is the co-author of the stewardship book, Embracing Stewardship: How to Put Stewardship at the Heart of Your Congregation’s Life, as well as author of “Stewards of God’s Love,” which is a stewardship resource for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

We encourage you to read Grace’s blog on her website:  www.gracepomroy.com where she helps couples transform their relationship and deepen their intimacy by having open and honest conversation about money. Grace's topic will be Funding Forward.

Congregations across the country are realizing that the “Sunday morning offering” may not be enough to sustain their mission. Congregations and faith-based nonprofits are finding new, more economically sustainable models for ministry arising organically from God’s mission for their organization. These models include specific tools like repurposing church property, social enterprise, impact investing, grants, and more. How might God be calling your congregation to use alternative income sources to fulfill its mission in new ways?
